Scott Tischler Founds Charity

PHOENIX, Arizona - Scott Tischler, a diamond and jewelry entrepreneur, regularly travels to Africa in search of diamonds for his business. As he sees just how bad the quality of life is for many Africans, his trips to Africa are becoming less about diamonds and more about bringing relief to the poorer slums he’s seen during his travels.

Tischler has always tried to help the people of Africa during his visits. He often purchases and donates large bags of rice and has even paid for a young girl to attend four years of school. During a trip to Kroo Bay, a slum Sierra Leone, Scott had an experience that caused him to become even more driven to help its inhabitants.

Kroo Bay is located in Freetown, Sierra Leone and is situated below sea level at a junction of  two rivers and the Atlantic. The ground is covered in litter, and there is no electricity or running water. Kroo Bay is prone to flooding due to its location and most of its children are sick and malnourished. The people are in desperate need of safer shelters, food, and clean water.

Scott Tischler made it a habit to buy one hundred 50-Kilo bags of rice for the people of Kroo Bay which would last them a few months. One day, he decided to treat the children of the town by buying pastries also. When Tischler presented the baked goods to the Chief, he was asked to take a bite. Scott politely declined because they were meant for the children. The Chief responded, “You take a bite to prove you haven’t poisoned it.” Bewildered, Scott Tischler took a bite followed by excited cheers from the children.

Upset by the knowledge that the people of Kroo Bay needed to worry about being poisoned when they were already facing sordid living conditions, Scott Tischler is incredibly determined to help these people live better lives. It’s no small task and Tischler says, “it is very important that it is done correctly.” Tischler plans on having the charity up and running by the year’s end.
